Abstract

This paper constitutes the editorial of a special issue of the Italian Journal of Geosciences dedicated to Albania, as a follow up of an international conference of the Task Force on Sedimentary basins of the International Lithosphere Programme held in Tirana on November 7-12, 2010. As such, this introductive chapter provides a summary of the main geological and geodynamical features of Albania, as well as the main topics addressed in the other chapters of this special issue.
